Junior campus
The junior campus consists of a Grade B listed building, built around 1806 which houses classrooms and specialist rooms. This includes, a library, a life skills room and a room with soft-play and multisensory equipment. There is also a purpose built facility in which the main school kitchen, the laundry, the dining room, the gymnasium and a general purpose (GP) room are located.
The residential accommodation comprises eight semi-detached houses, situated adjacent to the main school building. Each house currently offers shared living space for four or five children, with single occupancy bedrooms. There is also a medical room.
The outdoor facilities include grassed and hard play areas, two adventure playgrounds, a sensory garden and a tree house.
The campus has a security entry and exit system with high perimeter fencing to ensure the safety of children and young people, staff and visitors. Out of office hours access for families is available through the telecommunication system.
A log cabin is situated at the entrance to the Junior Campus. In addition, there is adequate disabled access and car parking facilities surrounding the campus.
Senior campus
The senior campus consists of a B listed building and walled garden, a short walking distance from the Junior Campus.
A terrace of 3 purpose built houses, located within the walled garden, offers spacious and flexible supported living accommodation. There are two self contained bed-sits within each house as well as seven single occupancy bedrooms with en-suite shower rooms. Each has two sitting rooms, two dining rooms, a kitchen with three cooking bays, a utility room and a hydrotherapy bathroom.
Also within the walled garden there are hard surface areas, grassed areas and a patio which provides opportunities for recreation and relaxation.
The education centre
The education centre comprises tutor rooms, a life skills room, an expressive arts room and refectory. All of these facilities are used to maximise learning opportunities and develop greater independence in the students. In addition there is a medical room, training and seminar facilities and a range of offices.
The enterprise centre and garden centre
The enterprise centre is located within the walled garden and provides facilities to develop vocational skills, enterprise and manufacturing activities. At the rear of the enterprise building, a large fenced off area provides facilities to develop the practical skills of gardening and horticulture.
Car parking facilities are also available on the Senior Campus with disabled parking spaces located close to the entrance to the building. Similar to the Junior Campus, ‘out of office hours’ access for families is also available.
The leisure meadow
Outdoor activities take place on the large expanse of meadow where a range of leisure pursuits are available such as a running track, cycle track and a sensory walk way.
Access to community facilities
There is exceptionally wide use of community leisure and recreational facilities such as local swimming pools, library, community resource/leisure centres, shops and cinemas. Students are encouraged to enjoy walking in the countryside and to visit places of historical interest. In addition road safety programmes, supported use of public transport, shopping for food, clothes and household items provide meaningful experiences in the wider community.
All of these facilities are used to maximise learning opportunities and develop greater independence in the young people.
