Broomhayes staff work together as a team and our education and residential staff are closely supported by the specialist staff. This means that we offer our students a consistent approach at all times, with clear and well-established structures.
We have a total staff of 200, enabling us to give specialist and flexible support to our children and young people with most students receiving 1:1 support during waking hours. All staff receive a comprehensive two-week induction programme.
Young people say they benefit from excellent relationships with staff. Staff display high levels of respect towards young people, and promote their dignity and privacy in an extremely sensitive manner.

Our multi-agency team of qualified professionals, who ensure every young person benefits from the support they need at Broomhayes, includes:
- clinical psychologist
- speech and language therapist
- social worker
- occupational therapist
- music therapist
- behaviour advisor
- educational psychologist
- school nurse
- specialist SEN teachers.
Our psychologists design intervention programmes to meet individual student needs and promote self-esteem and wellbeing.
Our behaviour advisor investigates each child’s social, behavioural and emotional needs, and develops a sensory profile for them. From these assessments we develop the student’s behaviour support plan.
Our speech and language therapist has overall responsibility for developing and implementing each student’s communication and language, and social skills programmes. The therapist works with students in class, in groups and individually.
At Broomhayes we use communication systems and strategies including PECS, visual cue cards, objects of reference and social stories, as well as iPads to facilitate communication.
