Are you a twin or do you know any twins who may be interested in a research project on autism?
The Institute of Psychiatry in London is looking for male and female twin pairs aged six to 60 for a research study.
Researchers hope to answer some key questions, including:
- which parts of the brain are involved in autism?
- which brain regions are responsible for different symptoms?
- what part do genes or the environment play in brain development?
Twins offer researchers a great opportunity to compare genetic and environmental influences, which can help to further understand the science behind autism. This, in turn, can lead to better interventions to support people with autism in the future.
The research team is looking for identical and non-identical, same-gender twin pairs, aged six to 60, where at least one twin has autism or Asperger syndrome. The study involves attending our research centre in London for an MRI brain scan and also doing some puzzles and tests, along with some web-based questionnaires that can be completed from home. Travel expenses will be refunded and participants will be reimbursed for their time.
