The Welsh Assembly Government is proposing a new 'measure', or Welsh law, which will provide for the introduction of a new system of charging for social care services. This aims to ensure that local authorities across Wales adopt a more consistent and fairer approach to charging service users for non-residential social care services. The measure will then allow Welsh ministers to develop the details in further legislation and guidance.

What we’re doing

The National Autistic Society (NAS) Cymru is part of the Coalition on Charging Cymru – an alliance of voluntary organisations who campaign together on issues relating to social care charging.

NAS Cymru welcomed the measure as a move to make charging more equal across Wales. It will allow ministers to cap funding charges. We have submitted a full response to the Welsh Assembly Government’s consultation on the proposed social care charging measure.

NAS Cymru will continue to monitor the situation and has indicated to the Welsh Assembly Government that we would be pleased to assist in the writing of regulations attached to the measure. The regulations will add detail to the measure and will determine how the measure affects people in Wales.
