Most standard travel policies will have a ‘pre-existing medical conditions’ exclusion. So if you travel with a medical condition and then had to make a claim, any medical costs relating directly or indirectly to that medical condition would be excluded.
This means that treatment for your condition is excluded and also the increase costs if treatment is affected by your condition are excluded. You are then personally responsible for these additional costs.
In addition, the pre-existing medical condition exclusion usually applies to the policy as a whole, regardless of whether the person living with the condition is named on it or not. This means that any claim related directly or indirectly to a pre-existing medical condition, even for someone not on the policy, may be refused.
For example in the event of cancellation or curtailment of the holiday due to the pre-existing medical condition of somebody travelling, no member of the travelling party may be covered to claim for the holiday, or the portion of it that was lost.
This is why Unique suggests that all members of the travelling party are insured on a travel policy covering pre-existing medical conditions.
