Understanding and supporting people with autism
This one-day course is for anyone who supports people with autism. Key aims: By the end of this one-day programme you will: have an increased understanding of the autism spectrum; be able to identify the triad of impairments; understand that autism affects people in different ways; be familiar with current thinking around the causes of autism; have an improved understanding of theories relating to autism; be aware of the practical strategies used to support people with autism; and know how to work more effectively to support people with autism. Further information: Participants will be helped to make the link between theoretical knowledge and practice. The course places emphasis on reflective practice and examination of the participant's skills, attitudes and communication style. It makes use of presentation, group discussion and tasking, self-directed learning and video.
